Cut to two years later.... A girl and her dog taking on the world.

Well that was quite the break for this project, dare I say that I forgot I was working on this all together until ten minutes ago.  In my defense it has been a very productive two years. All the things that I wanted to do, I have begun doing, which is both shocking and exciting.  I always wanted to discover the art of assertiveness, and I think I have.  I have found ways to begin standing up for myself, and going after the goals that I set for myself. So what goals have I been chasing? The shortest long story ever....
I am a teacher, I just obtained my History and English credentials. This is a fancy way to say that I discovered through substitute teaching that while small children are adorable, I am not good at teaching them. I feel bad being stern if they are in the younger grades, and I get over annoyed if they are in grades 3-5. This being the case, I found my happy teacher place teaching grades 6-12. If you asked me two years ago, I would have told you firmly with conviction that I was going to teach high school American Government and Economics... Funny thing about that, when have things ever gone the way that I think they will? (Answer: Never).
Subing was fantastic, in fact I think that it may have taught me more than my actual credential program did. However, to formally obtain a job as a teacher in the state of California, one must go through a round of hoop jumping... I have jumped the hoops! I have written the TPAs, the endless case studies and the philosophical pedagogical melarchy that has very little to do with effectively teaching students of any age. If you feel as though you just encountered a tinge of bitterness, its because you did.  Because two credentials wasn't enough to do, I added my masters as well. Heck, when you sign yourself up for the crazy train, you might as well make it an all inclusive trip right? I haven't finished my masters yet, I still have a couple of weeks to go until that is done and over with.
Seven months ago, when the ball dropped and everyone was kissing and screaming happy new year, I turned down the kiss, and instead jotted down a sentence in my notes app on my phone. It was a long sentence, essentially a news years resolution if you will. To end the shortest long story, or longest short story, I will tell you that I am writing this post, as an employed 6th grade teacher, who is sitting in her itsy bitsy apartment, in the geographical location of her dreams. Even though not every moment feels like a dream, I feel as though I am making progress... Most of the time.
I don't have a plan for this blog and I can't promise to blog often, but I am doing this so that I can chronicle life, and now my teaching career. Year one, here we go!
